Dominica issues five (5) categories of driving licenses:
A class :- This permit is issued to motorcyclists only. These persons are not permitted to drive any other motor vehicle other than a motorcycle. If an individual wishes to obtain a license to drive a vehicle other than a motorcycle, he must go through the process of obtaining a learner’s license again. There is an annual fee of $40.00 for a Class A license.
B class :- A person with this license can drive personal vehicles such as cars, jeeps, vans and trucks weighing up to one ton. In addition, holders of such licenses can also ride motorcycles without having to apply for a separate learner’s license. The annual license fee is $80.00; however, individuals will receive a 10% discount if paid for three (3) years.
C class :- Class C licenses are issued to those who drive heavy machinery, buses and trade vehicles. Applicants for a Class C license must be at least 21 years old, have one year of driving experience and hold a valid Class B license. Individuals must take another road test before obtaining a Class C license. If the individual is successful in the road test, he will continue to pay for the Class C driver’s license. Any time balance remaining on the Class B license will be void and the Class C license will be the only valid license. Annual fee is $100.00, but there is a 10% discount if paid for three (3) years.
